Lu Hanessian is an award-winning, former veteran television anchor [NBC Network] and host [Discovery Health Channel], and broadcast and print journalist, who has spent the past decade writing, researching, and interviewing through a trauma-informed lens with a focus on public health and collective resilience.
Lu brings her innate curiosity, candor, wit and insight to every interview. She is a storyteller with heart. As a science journalist, she is a synthesist, bringing together insights, discoveries and research from many disciplines and scientific fields with clarity, context and cutting-edge perspectives.
In her television career spanning more than 25 years, Lu has interviewed guests like Walter Cronkite, the Reverand Jesse Jackson, and Barbara Bush, musical legends Garth Brooks, Gloria Estefan, Eartha Kitt and Cyndi Lauper, global leaders in education, science, innovation, human rights, sports, and young inventors and change agents. In 1994, she was one of twelve television hosts selected to launch the "America's Talking" network [NBC] featuring fellow talk show hosts E. Jean Carroll, Carol Martin, Chris Matthews, and Roger Ailes. In the mid-90's, she was tapped to co-anchor the NBC Network morning show "Real Life."
Her early career in television began as an anchor, host, field reporter, and producer at CFCF 12 in Montreal [CTV Network]; as host of a syndicated show called "Travel, Travel" around the world, among other show. For five years, she hosted "The Science Show" (Coscient Productions), syndicated in 110 countries, translated into 17 languages. In 2004, she became the host of a new Discovery Health Channel show; several years later, she hosted "The Learning Lab with Lu" and "This is Your Brain On..." in NYC and taught educational workshops on brain science for teens in the East Village, NYC.
Lu has been an active speaker and workshop facilitator for more than twenty years.
